Katwa – The Sacred Place of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's Sannyasa

Katwa, situated on the banks of the Ajay River in Katwa, is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for followers of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. It is here that Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu accepted sannyasa (the renounced order of life) from Kesava Bharati at the age of 24. During this historic ceremony, He received the name Sri Krishna Chaitanya, by which He became known throughout the world.
